First of all, congrats on summitting that mountain! That is absolutely something to be proud of and "brag" about (in the not-uncouth sense).

I feel that I haven't done much that is brag-worth lately, but here's something small: I joined a hobby group and have even attended a couple of meetings. I hope that doesn't sound too silly, but I'm really not much of a socializer and have historically avoided group activities... BUT humans are ultimately social animals who need to be around other humans sometimes, so I'm putting on my big girls pants and trying this slightly-scary thing anyway :)

Thank you! And I think that's totally worth bragging about. If it's something you wouldn't normally do, and you're stepping outside of your comfort zone to do it, that's big! Community really is such an important aspect of our lives, and I bet if you stick it out, you'll discover some new things about yourself and make a couple pals along the way :)

Thanks for writing this, I needed to read it. I absolutely loved Martyr! One of my favourite books that I read in 2024.

Such a great read. Thank you for sharing. I will admit I have a hard time sharing my hard work for many of the listed reasons. But I started my substack to fix that and my goal is to share the successes of others as much as my own. Im here for community as much as for my own explorations in authorship.

Love this post. I think it's my ancestral Irish Catholic Guilt that goes back generations to Kerry, Ireland that makes me never want to talk about accomplishments for fear of being braggadocious lol

I can't believe I wrote this whole essay without using "braggadocious" a single time. You're my editor from now on, smh.

I get what you mean, though. I've heard a lot about this Catholic guilt thing, and it does not sound fun! At least now you know this is a safe space ;)

One of my favorite lines from Titanic that I say all the time is; "You are rude and uncouth!" but you have to do it with a Transatlantic accent or it loses all the fun.

Also just wanna say how cool it is to meet another Adrianna (mine is spelled with only one 'n') writing about capitalism on Substack.
