I've thought about getting the Freewrite Alpha for years but the price point is what has always stopped me. I'm bad about editing when I should be drafting so this seemed like the perfect solution. What's been working for me lately is to handwrite my drafts. It's slower but that's been a good thing for me (not for everyone though).
It was really cool to read about someone's experience with a Freewrite product. I'll buy one if I ever see a good deal on it.
This is an awesome review! I'm glad Jude got theirs at a more reasonable price point, buying second hand is such a good idea! I still love my turn-of-the-century AlphaSmart Neo that I bought on eBay for $100 and honestly, the FreeWrites aren't different or better enough to make me switch.
LOOOOVE the AlphaSmart! That device was so pivotal to my writing journey. If you're lucky to have an AlphaSmart that actually works (the ones I've bought off eBay inevitably power off at random times, or lose my work, or something else) hang on to that thing!
The Freewrite screen is taking new back to my college journalism convention days, when I carried a Casio word processing type writer that had a heat paper printer out put. Very small screen. But it did print out each line as I wrote. I much prefer an electric typewriter, but confess that is really too bulky to keep one.
This latest info makes me tempted to try it, if it was ever affordable.

I’m so glad you enjoyed reading about it! Here’s hoping you do find a good deal.
I’ve always been curious about other writers’ experiences with the Freewrite products. Thanks so much for writing this review!
I'm so glad this was helpful! :)

I absolutely love that it printed each line as you wrote it. What a cool concept. Those electric typewriters are neat, but huge!
I wish I had a picture of the Casio I'm talking about. It looked like a freewrite and was not heavy and huge at all.
