Oh I love the idea of a one-person writing retreat where you actually write!!

Maybe I can manage an Airbnb in Berlin for a couple of days - that'd be doable! 🤩

If you do it, PLEASE let me know how it went! I’d love to hear all about it! 😊

Whenever people ask me for writing advice, or what the hardest part about writing is, I always tell them the easiest part: It's accessible to everyone and inexpensive to do as a hobby, or even, not as a hobby. It doesn't REQUIRE investment (retreats, craft books, seminars, degrees, etc.) and that's why I love it so much.

Btw, I love what you're doing here, talking about creativity interwoven in capitalism. It's one of my favorite things to talk about. creativity and rest as forms resistance. :)

You just made my day - thank you! 😊 Creativity's intersection with capitalism is a topic I found myself discussing with my friends A LOT, so I had to turn it into a newsletter!

I absolutely agree with you that we're lucky to have an easily-accessible hobby. I feel blessed that the stars aligned to give me an interest in writing, lol. It's a shame when people (usually those with dollar signs for eyes) try to make writing look like something you need to invest a lot of money in.

I went on a writing retreat. It was more moderately priced and I had been wanting to go on one for so long. I really wanted to increase my connections in person with other writers. Long story short - the other people were there for the luxury items and not for the writing. I learned something about myself: I don’t like retreats!

Ugh, I'm sorry you had that experience! I completely understand how retreats sound captivating and worthwhile before actually going on one. Maybe you'd enjoy a solo "retreat" sort of like mine?
