Wondering how the hell you’re supposed to balance your creative aspirations with work, societal expectations, and the ever-changing internet?

Me too.

I’m just one writer, but I know other creatives are struggling to make and share their art in a world that demands quick results, corporate-approved (AKA sanitized) “content,” and constant, monetizable productivity. I hear about it all the time—from friends, from fellow writers at my local bookstore, from strangers online.

These aren’t exactly inspiring conditions, but we can enjoy fulfilling and sustainable creative lives nonetheless. It just takes a little…well, creativity. Take my (virtual) hand and join me in figuring out how.

About me:

I’m Adrianna, a writer living in sunny Phoenix, Arizona. After writing technology and science news all day, I’m often eager to sit down and pound out some fiction, personal essays, or poetic prose. And while this sometimes happens easily, that’s not always the case.

I started this newsletter because I (along with my creative friends) often find myself wondering how to make space for my art outside of work, how to balance personal fulfillment with salability, how to present myself online, and so on. I’ve noticed a common thread between these issues: Their root cause is capitalism. Whether it’s because we’re forced to work 40+ hours a week to keep ourselves alive or because advertisers have a chokehold on web-based communities, I’m convinced money—and the way we interact with it—has a vast impact on our collective ability to create and share our art. I share more about this in my introduction post, but you get the point.

I’m stubborn (yes, I’m a Taurus) and I believe we deserve better. Hence the newsletter. If you feel the same, I hope you’ll join me in tackling these issues head-on in pursuit of a more creative world.
