ICYMI: Sign up for Postcard Prompts to get an analog journal prompt every month!
Postcard Prompts are lovingly devised + designed by yours truly. Sign up now for 10% off!
In case you missed it earlier this week, Creativity Under Capitalism’s new paid tier gets you a real paper journal prompt in your IRL mailbox each month!
The lowdown:
I’ve journaled consistently for a long time, but whenever I recommend it to others, they invariably reply: I just don’t know what to say.
Postcard Prompts are my response to the intimidation of the blank page. They’re for beginners who just bought their first journal (one of the best parts of journaling, IMO, is getting to pick out a new notebook on the reg), folks who are confident in their journaling habit but want to make the most out of it, and long-time journalers for whom the page has gotten a bit stale.
Basically, if you’re interested in journaling on even a semi-consistent basis, Postcard Prompts are for you.
The testimonials (kinda):
But Adrianna, you might say, aren’t most prompts a bit cheesy/trite/boring? How can I be sure that they’ll apply to me?
The best journal prompts are broad enough to work for anyone but sharp enough to inspire a new train of thought. At the risk of tooting my own horn, I’m pretty good at writing those, per a few people who read my earlier post, Six journal prompts to try when life totally sucks.
“Had a really, unexpectedly bad client call for work this afternoon… The call really messed with me. But now I’m sitting here, journaling about it, using that prompt to unpack why. It’s helping me sort a few valid things but also identifying more that I’m totally unnecessarily spiraling about. Thank you so, so much! You really have made a difference.”
– Amy Mrotek (of Silly Magic Eight Ball)
“I’m not the biggest fan of prompts, but I do think the right question at the right time can lead to deeper understanding, greater self-compassion, and an overall easier (if not easy) go of things… These questions feel less like prompts and more like a collection of tools I can turn to in a moment I need extra help!”
– Dylan Michael Julian (of the titular Substack newsletter Dylan Michael Julian)
“I loved your newest article…I thought those were great ideas! I signed up for your postcard prompts 💃”
– my mom (AKA my first customer)
And if you really aren’t a fan of journaling but love to write, you could always use your Postcard Prompts to brainstorm personal essays, stories, or even Substack posts!
What you can expect:
At the beginning of each month, I’ll mail you a thoughtful (and perhaps even unconventional) prompt on a postcard lovingly designed by yours truly. Some prompts will gently incorporate the season they’re delivered in, but most will be broadly applicable to any time of year.
I’ve got lots of fun plans for this little project: using my typewriter to stamp a prompt into pretty paper; incorporating some cyanotype (AKA “sunprint”) paper into a postcard; and partnering with artists to create limited-edition visuals and prompts inspired by their work’s central themes (HMU if you want to work together!).
What it costs:
The first Postcard Prompt will go out in early July.
Signing up costs just $7.50 per month. (You’ll get two months free if you pay for an annual subscription!) In addition to receiving regular snail mail prompts, you’ll be a much-beloved supporter of this newsletter, which will remain 100% free to read.
From now until July 1, you can sign up for Postcard Prompts for 10% off, bringing the monthly dues down to $6.75 per month!
If after a few months you decide that Postcard Prompts aren’t for you, it’s easy (and free) to cancel your paid membership.
What are you waiting for? Treat yourself to greater self-understanding and a screen-free habit. Get fun snail mail in your mailbox at last! ✉
